Sodium benzoate SB is commonly used as a preservative in food and beverages. The aim of this work is to determine the sodium benzoate concentration in different samples of some soft drinks commercially available in local markets in Libya currently by UV-visible spectrophotometric methods. Collected six samples from different supermarkets in Libya and classified them into three categories: Libyan products (A1, A2), imported-Arabic products (B1, B2), and imported Turkish products (C1, C2). The study result presented the sodium benzoate range in the investigated samples in Libyan products in the between the range 131.7114 – 201.552 ppm, Arabic products in the between rang 207.2148 – 293.8339 ppm and Turkish products in the range 224.8322 – 341.6527 ppm. The lowest concentration of sodium benzoate (131.7114 ppm) showed in the A2 Libyan sample, as well as the highest concentration of the sodium benzoate (341.6527 ppm) represented in the C1 Turkish sample. In this work, all of the samples are lower the allowable limits according to the standards and specifications of the World Health Organization (WHO). The soft drinks-pH samples was between the (2.98 - 4.01), the C1 Turkish sample appearances the highest of pH (4.01), B2 Arabic sample indicated the lowest value of pH (2.98)
