Purpose- Employees perform better when they enjoy their work. Building on this premise the core aim of the current study is to investigate the relationship between fun at work and employees taking charge behavior through mediation of psychological empowerment and moderating role of promotion focus. Methods- Data for the current study is collected from employees of service sector using lags approach. All in all, 375 useful responses are received and used for analysis purposes. Findings- Findings of the study reveal that fun at work positively influences employees' taking charge behavior while psychological empowerment partially mediates the relationship. Additionally, promotion focus strengthens the relationship between fun and taking charge behavior. Contribution/Value- Building upon conservation of resources and evolutionary emancipation perspectives, this study adds value to the existing body of knowledge by hypothesizing and empirically evaluating an unexplored relationship (fun and taking charge behavior) through a novel explanatory mechanism of psychological empowerment and promotion focus.
