|b Communicating efficiently and appropriately is considered to be the ultimate goal of foreign language learning. However, even though EFL learners are taught the speaking skills for many years, their level of conversational competence is far from satisfactory. This may be due to the fact that teachers and students seem to be unaware that holding a natural, spontaneous conversation is a skill that involves mastering the linguistic and the conversational features of the language. The present research paper considers explicit teaching of conversational features. It specifically aims to explore the effect of explicit teaching of these features in conversation through consciousness-raising activities.
