المستخلص: Praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon the best of creation, Prophet Mohammed One of the most important principles concerning Islamic law is the principle of absolute obedience to the commands of Allah independent of immediate circumstances; for this is the manner of achieving the ultimate goal, that is unquestionable obedience. Absolute obedience to the commands of Allah is dependent on the position one must follow the command stated in genera! terms (independent of immediate circumstances), and this does not obtain except by maintaining the position that the command denotes obligatoriness. This research discusses: - The definition of the word amr ‘command’ and what is meant by it according to legal theorists. - The scholarly differences on the obligatoriness of a general command, by briefly mentioning the opinions of the various legal schools, as well as the dominant opinion, and the strongest evidence and its preponderance. The preceding serves as a preamble to the main topic. - The meaning of ‘fawr’ and ‘tarakhy’ i.e. general and time restricted commands, according to legal theorists and their points of differences. - The scholarly opinions on the meaning of general commands (that is, in the absence of circumstantial evidence) denoting either immediacy or permissibility of delay. This is supplemented by evidences and discussions of these evidences and the possible responses to them. - A discussion of the dominant opinion. - The effect of the difference of opinions concerning substantive juristic issues. - A conclusion comprising the most important results. May Allah guide us to what pleases Him.
