حكاية ابن زريق البغدادي، المصاحبة لقصيدة اليتيمة، تحولت على يد الروائي احمد الدوسري، إلى رواية فيها جدة و متعة فكرية. تقوم الرواية ببنيتها واحداثها على الرمز، إذ تحولت شخوصها إلى رموز حية، وحملت احداثها بدلالات ترتبط بالرمز المحوري للرواية، فابن زريق، الذي هام بابنة عمه حبا، وحرم منها لفقره، اضطر إلى الهجرة إلى الأندلس ليحصل من اميرها على ما يسد به نفقات المهر، مات دون ان يدرك هدفه، فصار ضحية للغربة، بل رمزا لضحايا الغربة، تمتد ظلاله المعتمة على مدى السنين. انصب جهده في هذه الدراسة على تتبع الرمز في الرواية، بدءا بابن زريق، ومرورا بالراوي الجرجاني المكلف بمهمة البحث عن مصير ابن زريق، فضلا عن مهمته راويا، ثم بصائد الشيخ الذي ابقته الرواية حيا حتى بلغ المائة، ليقص اسرار رحلة ابن زريق ونهايته المفجعة، وصولا إلى دلالات العنوان والرموز الأخرى التي تناثرت على متن الرواية، وليسهل عرض تفاصيل الدراسة، قسمت على المحاور المعنونة على النحو الآتي: الشخوص رموز الغربة، البنية الدرامية ورمز الغربة ابن زريق، عدوى غربة ابن زريق، احداث الرواية رمز لتحديات الراهن، الكلاب رموز للمحتلين، الزمن السردي، والسرد واللغة في الرواية ،وازدواجية مهمة الراوي في بنية الرواية.
The story of Ibn Zureiq Al-Baghdady that left behind it a superb orphaned poem has been transformed into novel full of imagery and creativity by the novelist Ahmad Al-Dosary. It is also full of interesting mental and spiritual enjoyment. The structure of events is made on symbolism. The characters type and development were transformed into living symbols. The setting of the novel was loaded with connotations linked to the axial symbol of the novel. Ibn Zureiq the main character of the events of the novel was deeply in love with his cousin. He was deprived of his love because he was very poor. So, he had to immigrate to Andalusia to earn some money from its prince so that he would be able to pay for her dowry. He died a tragic death without being able to achieve his goal. He became not only a victim of estrangement, but a symbol of all the victims of estrangement the dark shadows of which prevailed for years. The effort in this study was mainly on the theme of following up and finding the symbols in the novel. Starting with Ibn Zureiq, then the narrator AlJurjany who was delegated with the mission of finding out the fate of Ibn Zureiq as well as being the Narrator. Then on Saed Al-Sheikh who had been kept alive in the novel till the age of one hundred, so as to tell the secrets of Ibn Zureiq journey and all the challenges he was met with till his tragic end. Reaching the study of the connotations of the title, and all the other symbols that scattered throughout the novel
