المستخلص: Involving parents in their children education has been a crucial issue that is of considerable interest to educators. It has been noticed that parents had less influence in children’s education as the school became a systemic organization. However, parents’ involvement has shown a substantial increase after reconsidering the importance of the school-home partnership which led to the creation of parent-teacher associations. In the 1990s, the school reform movement helped to provide awareness of the importance of this partnership to improve educational goals. (Wilkins, 2008). With this increasing interest in parent involvement, there have been a growing number of studies exploring the different dimensions of home school partnership. In the Egyptian context, research that has been conducted on such relationships is still scare and limited, it should be encouraged. Trying to fill in this research gap, this study compares the international and local, i.e. Egyptian perspectives on parent involvement at both the research and practice levels. The paper reviews the most important developments of parent involvement in children’s education in Egypt. The areas the present study compares at the international and local levels include: the dimensions of conceptualizing parent involvement, the barriers to parent involvement, and the approaches to fostering parent involvement, and the research orientations in parent involvement. The study concludes that research and practice perspectives related to parent involvement at the Egyptian level are lagging far behind those of the international one. In light of this, the study presents some recommendations for parent involvement research and practice that are applicable to the Egyptian context.
