المستخلص: تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التعرُّف على اتجاهات الآباء والأمهات نحو ممارسة أبنائهم للأعمال التطوعية، وتحديد مدى وعيهم بأهمية العمل التطوعي، ومدى تشجيعهم أبناءهم على القيام بذلك وممارسته ليصبح سلوكًا. كما هدفت إلى التعرف على المعوقات تحد من ممارسة الأبناء للعمل التطوعي، والخرج بمقترحات عملية وفاعلة من وجهة نظر الآباء والأمهات المبحوثين فيما يتعلق بممارسة الأبناء للأعمال التطوعية، بالإضافة إلى اختبار الاختلافات في خصائص الأسرة وبعض المتغيرات السكانية في الاتجاه نحو ممارسة الأبناء للعمل التطوعي. وتعدُّ هذه الدراسة وصفية تحليلية، اعتمدت على منهج المسح الاجتماعي عن طريق العينة، وتم استخدام أداة الاستبانة في جمع البيانات، وجرى تطبيقها على عينة بعدد (382 ) من الآباء والأمهات من الأسر السعودية في مدينة الرياض. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى عدد من النتائج، أبرزها: وجود وعي لدى الآباء والأمهات بأهمية العمل التطوعي.

This study aims to identify attitudes of parents towards the participation of their children in voluntary works and their awareness of the importance of volunteering and if they are encouraged to participate in it. The study aims also to determine if there areany barriers that limit children’s participation in voluntary works, as well asto know the most important proposals of the parents interviewed in this regard, and to test the influence of the different characteristics of families and demographic variables on the attitude toward children’s participation in voluntary work. The present study is a descriptive and analytical study based on social investigation method using the sampling, in which a questionnaire was usedto gather information. The study was performed on a sample of 382fathers and mothers of Saudi families from Riyadh. It concluded that parents are aware of the importanceof volunteering and that children have to learn volunteeringvalues. The results of the study show that the interviewees have a limited awareness of the importance of encouraging their children to participate in voluntary work, which due to a certain fear that the children might participate in voluntary works within a context in which their programmes and projects are ignored and in which media and education institutions don’t make enough efforts to promote the culture of volunteering and to explain organized voluntary worksthatshould be supervised and followed by official institution of the State
