|b Translation of a literary work is never an automatic easy process but always poses many problems caused by linguistic and cultural diversity. The difficulty seems to be enhanced if the work to be translated is for children who have little knowledge about the source language culture. One of the central concerns in the translation of children's literature is the tension between source-text orientation (foreignization) and target-text orientation (acculturation or domestication). The present study probes into the translation strategies of foreignization and domestication in the translation of children's literature, and more specifically in the translation of fairytales into Arabic. The main focus is on one of the most important literary elements, i.e. names, because names may act as semiotic and sound symbolic signs indicating a wide array of socio-cultural information to the reader. The study shows the different types of meaning conveyed by names and what translators usually do with them The data is a number of fairy tales translated from English into Arabic. Aixela's method (1996) of analysis is used for the classification of translation strategies used. The qualitative analysis indicates that foreignization strategies are used more than domestication in the translation of names into Arabic.
