The open access movement has become in a short span of time an opportunity for the majority of researchers allowing them to regain control of their work. The two roads (green and golden) have had up to now different outcomes. The golden road which prima facie seems a more rewarding road is, nevertheless, marred by the Author Processing Charges which are imposed by some publishers to publish open access and without delay. These Processing Charges which could reach as high as $5000 exclude de facto researchers from The Souths .From another point of view, some programs (such as Research41ife, The Chicago Emerging Nations Initiative, The International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications, etc...) do not practice an unabridged open access and are considered ,as a result, a pale substitute rather than a solution to the Souths specific problems. The green road by its non restraining approach and its reliance on the institutions ‘will and politics seems to be the solution that answers the best the Souths’ researchers needs.
