هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تقصي فعالية استخدام الحاسوب في تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية بمعنى آخر أن الباحث حاول رصد الفوائد التي تفيد كل الطلاب والأساتذة من استخدام الحاسوب في العملية التربوية. أيضا أن الدراسة نظرت إلى العوائق والتحديات المتعلقة باستخدام الحاسوب. لقد تم استخدام الاستبانة والمقابلة كأدوات لجمع البيانات ولقد توصل الباحث إلي النتائج الآتية: إن استخدام الحاسوب يمكن أن يكون أداة فعالة في تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية ولكن هنالك عدة عوائق تحول دون استخدام الحاسوب بطريقة فعالة في تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية أهمها تخوف المعلمين من استخدام الحاسوب في تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية، عدم توفر البيئة التدريسية التي تتوفر فيها أجهزة الحاسوب والتقنيات المصاحبة وطريقة استخدامها، دور الطلاب السلبي من استخدام الحاسوب يضاف إلى ذلك عيوب الحاسوب نفسه كآلة، وبناء علي النتائج أعلاه يتقدم الباحث بالتوصيات التالية: توفير أجهزة الحواسيب والتقنيات المصاحبة في المؤسسات التعليمية، رفع وعي معلمي اللغة الإنجليزية بأهمية استخدام الحاسوب في تدريس هذه اللغة، وضع برامج حاسوب تلبي حاجات الطلاب ورغباتهم ومساعدة الطلاب في كيفية استخدام الحاسوب بفعالية في داخل الفصل.
This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using the Computer in teaching English as a foreign language. In other words, the researcher tried to list the benefits that both teachers and students of English can gain by using the computer in pedagogical processes. Also, the study looked into the obstacles and challenges associated with using the computer in teaching English. The researcher used a questionnaire and an interview as tools for collecting data and came out with the following results. Using the computer can be an effective supplementary tool for teaching English as a foreign language. However, there are a number of obstacles related to using the computer in the teaching of English. The factors that contribute to these problems include computer phobia, teachers' reluctance to use the computer in the classroom, lack of adequate equipment, teachers' negative attitudes, students’ passive role in using the computer as a tool for learning English language, together with weaknesses related to the computer itself, as a machine. The researcher recommends raising the teachers' awareness of the benefits in using the computer in teaching English as a Foreign language, providing educational institutions with the necessary technological equipment, designing computer programs that satisfy students’ needs and guiding the students on how to use the computer effectively in class room.
