|b Translation is considered to be a universal activity all over the world. Many theoreticians carry divergent views on the role of bilingualism and the role it plays in the translation theory. This paper is to tackle questions related to this critical aspect. What is the activity of translation? What is bilingualism? Is there a direct relation between these concepts? Does bilingualism play specific functions in the activity of translation? This paper is to cast light and examine some other aspects in relation: Social bilingualism, natural translation and native translation & professional bilingualism. How far is translator training important? What is the role of the bilingual’s meta-linguistic knowledge in his translation activity? All these aspects are presented in the discussion of this paper.
