المستخلص: This article presents elements of reflection on the meaning and notion of 'fidelity' in translation. It is the fruit of our own experience as a teacher at the Institute of Translation at the University of Oran1. It follows questions about the understanding and apprehension of the notion of fidelity in the translational operation by our students in graduation and post-graduation where this notion does not seem to us to have its place of choice as that condition sine qua non to an adequate and appropriate translation.

Cet article présente des éléments de réflexion sur le sens et la notion de ‘fidélité’ en traduction. Il est le fruit de notre propre expérience en tant qu’enseignant à l’Institut de Traduction de l’Université d’Oran1. Il fait suite à des interrogations sur la compréhension et l’appréhension de la notion de fidélité dans l’opération traductive de la part de nos étudiants en graduation et en post-graduation où cette notion ne nous parait pas avoir sa place de choix en tant que condition sine qua non à une traduction adéquate et appropriée.
