The study aims to identify the role of the Palestinian political elite in promoting the Palestinian university students’ national identity, taking into consideration the critical period that the Palestinian issue is experiencing. The study assumes that overlapping factors have led to a decline in political elite’s role in promoting the national identity, especially in light of the Palestinian division (political and geographical separation between Gaza and the West Bank). Accordingly, the study assumes that political elite abandon their historical role and moral obligations towards the Palestinian people. Similarly, elite’s political behavior is assumed to be characterized as narrow and that much of their moral and cultural values is lost. This could consequently lead to serious implications on the Palestinian future national identity and the entire Palestinian issue. The study’s results include the following: There is a remarkable positive role of the political elite in promoting the Palestinian university students’ social awareness. The Palestinian political elite have played an important role in promoting the values of patriotism and sacrifice (i.e. belonging and loyalty). They also promote awareness of the national issues, especially national principles (e.g. Jerusalem, refugees… etc. ). Recommendations: The study recommends supporting and consolidating the role of the Palestinian political elite in promoting the national identity by adopting compulsory university courses that help entrench the concept of national identity and national issues. The courses should be taught by academic and erudite political elites. In addition, the political elite should avoid political fanaticism while doing national tasks. Finally, it is necessary to activate the role of the political elites in achieving national unity, ending the current division and drafting a comprehensive political project.
تهدف الدراسة إلى التعرف إلى دور النخبة السياسية الفلسطينية في تعزيز الهوية الوطنية لدي طلبة الجامعات الفلسطينية، خصوصا في هذه الفترة الحرجة التي تمر بها القضية الفلسطينية، وتفترض الدراسة أن عوامل متداخلة أدت إلى تراجع دور النخبة السياسية لجهة تعزيز الهوية الوطنية، خصوصاً في ظل الانقسام الفلسطيني (السياسي والجغرافي). وعليه؛ تفترض الدراسة أن النخبة السياسية تخلت عن دورها التاريخي وموقفها الأخلاقي تجاه شعبها، وانطبع سلوكها بالحزبية والمنفعة الذاتية، وبالتالي فقدت كثيراً من شخصيتها (قيمتها المعنوية (وقيادتها الثقافية والأخلاقية للمجتمع الفلسطيني، وما لذلك من تداعيات خطيرة على مستقبل الهوية الوطنية والقضية الفلسطينية برمتها. استخدمت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي النقدي خلال معالجتها لدور النخبة السياسية في تعزيز الهوية الوطنية؛ حيث كشفت الدراسة )الاستبانة( أن هناك دور إيجابي كبير للنخبة السياسية في تعزيز الوعي الاجتماعي لدي طلبة الجامعات الفلسطينية، وأن النخب السياسية الفلسطينية ساهمت بدور كبير جداً في تعزيز قيم حب الوطن والتضحية )الولاء والانتماء(، كما عززت الوعي بالقضايا الوطنية خاصة بالثوابت الوطنية )القدس اللاجئين.. الخ (. وتوصي الدراسة بضرورة ترسيخ دور النخبة السياسية الفلسطينية في تعزيز الهوية الوطنية من خلال اعتماد مساقات دراسية ترسخ مفهوم الهوية والقضايا الوطنية كمتطلبات جامعة إجبارية، يقوم بتدريسها نخب سياسية أكاديمية ومثقفة. ضرورة تفادي النخب السياسية للتعصب الحزبي خلال القيام بمهامها الوطنية. وأخيراً ضرورة تفعيل دور النخب السياسية من أجل تحقيق الوحدة الوطنية وإنهاء الانقسام وصياغة مشروع سياسي شامل.
