In the post-colonial socio linguistic context, Arabic turned out to be not only in a position of inferiority but also in a battle for survival with the colonizing languages, namely French and English. Since then, language policies and more precisely Arabization projects have been devised and implemented by Arab governments in an attempt to assign to Arabic the official status and functional role it deserves in all sectors of activities and fields of knowledge. Nowadays, after many decades of language and terminology planning in a globalized world where specialized communication is of utmost importance, the objectives seem to be far out of reach. There is a substantial want of Arabic terminologies, and when they exist they are of poor quality; they are mostly borrowed from either English or French. In this respect, the national mass-media, instead of diffusing the adequate authentic Arabic terms, contributes in the large-scale spread of inadequate loan terms and phrases, which may endanger the status of Arabic as a symbol of pan-Arab unity. In the present study, the author conducts an analysis of the Arabic terminology being currently used by Moroccan journalists in the new emerging fields, namely mobile technology and renewable energy. The aim is not only to demonstrate the occurrence of terminological borrowing in the Moroccan mass¬media, but also to diagnose the causes and suggest solutions to be implemented in the short and long terms. With this aim in view, a corpus of texts is selected from Moroccan newspapers, classified and analyzed. Moreover, a questionnaire is devised with the aim to investigate into the opinions of Moroccan journalists on the terminological issue under study. The study concludes with outlining a terminology policy focused on the teaching of terminology in specialized fields and the development of interactive terminological databanks.
