The reading process is considered to be a mean of learning that hold high efficient mean improve and master the language. It is seen as fundamental skill to learn in the classroom that aims at teaching language (Nuttal, 2000:46). The main purpose of reading is to comprehend the new subjects. Many students at the universities face some difficulties when dealing with comprehending. Therefore, the current study aims at investigating the role of convergent and divergent thinking in developing the EFL Iraqi students’ achievement in English reading comprehension. The limitations of the study are students from second-year in English department at Imam ALKhadum collage in Baghdad during the academic year (2020-2021). In order to fulfil the requirements of the study, the restudy hypothesize that there is no significant differences between the mean scores of the achievement of the first group who has been using convergent and divergent thinking and the second group who has used the traditional methods for reading. In order to test the two hypothesis, the researcher chose a sample of (82) students in their second year in English department at Imam ALKhadum collage in Baghdad for the second half of academic year 2020-2021.The sample was selected randomly then divided into two groups. The first group is the group who use the convergent and divergent thinking and it’s called experimental group and the second group is the group who is not using this types of thinking and it is called control group. The numbers of the students in experimental group are (32) and the control group (32). After the experiment has ended, the researcher conducted an achievement test in reading comprehension to check students’ achievements before and after. A t-test formula is employed for the two groups’ results. The findings of the study showed that there is indeed a statistically significant difference between the mean score of the two groups and it is in favour of the experimental group since its mean scores is higher than that of the control group.
