المستخلص: The notion that there exists a specific timeframe during which second language acquisition is most optimal is widely held. In recent years, researchers have conducted numerous investigations in order to examine the credibility of this hypothesis. Different researches have shown controversial results, which questions the existence of the related critical period. This article aims to investigate this problem of controversy of the existence of Critical period (CP) for acquiring second language (L2). Basic notions related to the topic such as “lateralization”, “Critical Period Hypothesis”, etc, are elaborated. Then, certain reliable studies were briefly mentioned. Arguing that even after conducting many studies, the issue of CPH for second language is controversial, and it is still argued widely.
