المستخلص: The problem of the current study can be stated in the following main question: * What is the effect of using concept acquisition strategies on acquiring philosophical concepts by secondary first grade students? The main question, however, is divided into the following two questions: - What is the effect of using Analogies Strategy for concepts acquiring on the achieving of the subject of philosophy among secondary first grade students? What is the effect of using Concept Diagram Strategy for concepts acquiring on the achieving of the subject of philosophy among secondary first grade students? Purpose of the study: The current study aims at exploring the influence of using the strategies of Analogies and Concept Diagram on acquiring philosophical concepts by secondary first grade students. Importance of the study: The importance of the study is clarified in the following: 1. This study may contribute to filling the gap in the studies related to using the strategies of concepts acquisition in different subjects, in general, and philosophical concepts in particular. 2. Using new strategies for teaching concepts, in general, and philosophical concepts in particular. 3. This study may contribute to presenting new theories about concept acquisition, such as The Atomic Theory, The Theories of Analogy, and The Probabilistic Theory. 4. Presenting some strategies for the acquisition of philosophical concepts in a facilitating and simplified way, in order for the teachers to make use of to enhance the achievement level of their students in the secondary stage.

Hypotheses of the study The current study seeks for testing the following hypotheses: 1. There are no significant differences (at level 0, 05) between the mean scores of the pre- and post measurement of the first experimental group by using the Analogies Strategy on acquiring philosophical concepts. 2. There are no significant differences (at level 0, 05) between the mean scores of the pre- and post measurement of the second experimental group by using Concept Diagram Strategy on acquiring philosophical concepts. 3. There are no significant differences (at level 0, 05) between the mean scores of the two experimental groups in the post measurement of concepts acquisition. Participants: The final total number of participants in the current study consisted of 47 secondary first grade students during the school year 2005/ 2006, drawn from Al-baweety Secondary School, which belongs to Elwahat Instructional Administration, Giza Governorate. The IQ of participants is above 90. The researcher divided them into two experimental groups, the first one consisted of 23 students and represented class 1/3 and was dedicated for the Analogy strategy, and the second group consisted of 24 students, and represented class 1/1, and was dedicated for the Concept Diagram Strategy. Instruments of the study: 1. The Pictorial Intelligence Test. (Prepared by Ahmad Zaki Saleh) 2. An Achievement Test of Philosophical concepts acquisition. (Prepared by the current researcher) 3. The attributes of the five selected concepts and the examples and non-examples of them. (Prepared by the current researcher). 4. The training procedures used in the study. (Prepared by the current researcher). 5. Designing the instructional lessons according to the Analogies Strategy. (Prepared by the current researcher). 6. Designing the instructional lessons according to the Concept Diagram Strategy. (Prepared by the current researcher). 7. A scale of testing the validity of the experimental procedures. (Prepared by the current researcher). Results of the study: The current study revealed the following results: 1. There are significant differences (at level 0, 05) between the mean scores of the pre- and post test of the first experimental group in the Achievement Test, in favor of the post test. 2. There are significant differences (at level 0, 05) between the mean scores of the pre- and post test of the second experimental group in the Achievement Test, in favor of the post test. 3. There are not significant differences between the mean scores of the post test of the two experimental groups in the Achievement Test.
