This study aims to examine the status of media freedom in Jordan. A random sample of 265 media professionals from both sexes was selected; and a questionnaire was distributed as a data collection tool. The data collected was then, analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software (SPSS), through selecting the appro¬priate statistical techniques to answer the research questions which included: descriptive statistics, Cornobach’s Alpha to measure the internal consistency of the study tool, the paired sample t-test and the one-way ANOVA test. The study revealed a lack of media freedom in Jordan as a result of the too many changes in media laws and legislations that occurred during the previous years. Results also showed that the majority of media professionals who participated in this research sample hold a university degree and have a high level of knowledge and awareness. Furthermore, it showed that Jordanian media professionals are specialized and have the necessary professional qualifications that would enable them to do a professional and highly skilled work. The study proved that there are no statistically significant differences among respondents when we consider the variables of gender, years of experience in the field of media, monthly income, educational level, and the nature of their media task. While it showed that there are statistically significant differences among the respondents when the type of institutions they work in, and the media sector they belong to are taken into consideration. The study revealed that those who work in electronic and print media enjoy higher levels of media freedom than others who work in a different media sector. Furthermore, media professionals working in the public sector are subjected to pressures that reduce the limit of the media freedom they enjoy compared to those working in the private media sector. Finally, the study concluded with a number of recommendations aiming at enhancing media freedom in Jordan.
