المستخلص: This study aims at investigating the effect of using Facebook as a free writing tool on improving students' writing skills in EFL classes. A project Based on Facebook groups was designed and administered' to a sample of English major students at English department, faculty of Education, Damanhour University in Egypt with total number of 82 students. Two tests were prepared: one for essay writing with an analytic scoring rubric and another for writing short comments with an analytic scoring rubric to measure students' skills in a pre-test post-test control group design experiment. Results of the study revealed that students in the experimental group out-performed students in the control group in essay writing in general. Further analysis indicated that three major skills were improved: focus and organization, development and style, and creative writing skills. Whereas the skill of mechanics of writing was not significantly improved. The study revealed also improved skills in writing short comments. The study recommended the integration of Social Networking Sites (SNS) especially Facebook in writing instruction.
