A Suggested Program Based on Self Regulated Strategy Development for Developing English Language Functional Writing Skills of Students at Al Azhar University Gaza

The study aims at examining the effectiveness of an instructional program based on Self-Regulated Strategy Development model for developing some functional writing skills (Format, Organization, Content, Vocabulary, Grammar and Mechanics) in some functional writing fields (Letter, E-mail, Report, Memo, Article, and Summary writing). The quasi experimental group of thirty students at Al-Azhar University-Gaza, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Science was the participants of the study. Several instruments validated by a panel of EFL specialists, were used to achieve the study purposes namely; the SRSD instructional program, pre¬post functional writing tests, a functional writing skills checklist and a correction rubric. Pair- sample T-Test was employed for data analysis. Findings revealed large effects on overall functional writing and functional writing sub-skills, which indicated the effectiveness of the Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) instructional program in developing students' functional writing performance. |
