This article aims at illustrating how learning cycles relate to the nature of foreign language learning as it is deprived of many opportunities of practice outside the EFL classroom and how learning cycles can help in making up for such limitedness of exposure to the foreign language. The article sheds light on the emergence of Learning Cycles as models of constructivist learning and examines how they are rooted in the Piagetian cognitive development. It also goes through the stages of constructivist learning as they are highlighted in the literature. The paper also presents a detailed survey of learning styles and how they are linked to and addressed by different models of learning cycles. The paper shows how learning cycles assign more active roles to EFL learners and teachers providing sample activities specifying these roles and emphasizing appropriate procedures. |
