The Development of Some Writing Sub-Skills and its Relationship to Computer-Assisted Language Learning English Syntax : An Experimental Study

المستخلص: This study investigates the development of three writing sub-skills; namely: language use, organization and content; and the relationship between Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) of English syntax and the enhancement of these sub-skills. The target population was college students from whom a sample of 103 subjects was randomly chosen from Fourth Year, English majors, the academic year of 2010 enrolled at the Faculty of Education, Kafr El-Sheikh University. In respect of its methodology, the current study utilized the One-Group Pretest-Posttest experimental design. The duration of the experiment took six weeks to implement the CALL program as well as the pre and post administrations of syntax and writing tests. A grammar CALL program designed by the researchers beforehand represented the material of the current study. Furthermore, three tools: a writing test and a syntax test designed by the researchers in a former study (Naeem and El-Banna, 2011) and Jacobs et al.'s (1981) ESL Composition Profile were also put into practice. The main research questions were turned into six hypotheses to be tested. Statistically, the researchers have used the t-Test for Non-independent samples and the Pearson Product Moment Coefficient of Correlation to test the hypotheses. Six tables that showed the statistical analysis of data were included in this study. Results refer to the fact that the three investigated writing sub-skills had already been developed; however, this development did not relate to the CALL of syntax rules.
