سعت الدراسة إلى تحقيق الأهداف التالية: التعرف على واقع تضمين التربية البيئية في التعليم العام في المملكة العربية السعودية، وتحديد المشكلات البيئية التي يمكن تناولها ضمن التربية البيئية في التعليم العام في المملكة العربية السعودية، والوقوف على الصعوبات التي تواجه تضمين التربية البيئية في التعليم العام في المملكة العربية السعودية، والتعرف على مداخل تضمين التربية البيئية في المناهج الدراسية في التعليم العام في المملكة العربية السعودية، والتعرف على سبل تعزيز التربية البيئية في التعليم العام في المملكة العربية السعودية، واستخدمت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي الوثائقي، وتوصلت لنتائج منها: أنه لا يوجد منهج خاص بالتربية البيئية يدرس في التعليم العام في المملكة العربية السعودية، وهو ما يسمى بالمدخل المستقل، وأن المناهج الدراسية في التعليم العام لم تتناول بصورة واسعة وشاملة جوانب التربية البيئية، كما أن بعض المناهج لم تتضمن موضوعات عن المشكلات البيئية ولم تعالجها بالشكل المطلوب، وأن المشكلات البيئية التي يمكن تناولها ضمن التربية البيئية في التعليم العام هي بالضرورة المشكلات البيئية التي تعاني منها المملكة العربية السعودية، ويمكن حصرها في: التلوث البيئي والتصحر واستنزاف مصادر المياه، كما أنه يتم تضمين التربية البيئية في المناهج الدراسية في التعليم العام في المملكة العربية السعودية من خلال: المدخل الاندماجي (التكاملي)، ومدخل الوحدات الدراسية، ولتعزيز التربية البيئية في التعليم العام ينبغي القيام بالعديد من الإجراءات، ومن أهمها: إعداد خطة استراتيجية لدمج التربية البيئية ضمن منظومة التعليم العام، وإعادة صياغة المقررات الدراسية في مراحل التعليم العام من أجل تحقيق التكامل بين موضوعاتها وموضوعات التربية البيئية، وإدخال مقررات وبرامج ومناشط للتربية البيئية ضمن الخطة الدراسية في كليات التربية، واختتمت الدراسة بتوصيات، منها: التأكيد علي أهمية الثقافة البيئية، وضرورة تنمية الوعي البيئي لدى الطلاب في مراحل التعليم العام، والتأكيد على العمل الجماعي من خلال إشراك جميع مؤسسات المجتمع ذات العلاقة بالبيئة، والهيئات والنوادي الثقافية ومؤسسات التعليم والإعلام والمسجد، في تعزيز الوعي البيئي لدي الطلاب وفق خطط مدروسة ومنهجية واضحة، وضرورة ربط التنظير بالتطبيق وبث الاتجاهات العلمية في التعامل مع البيئة، من خلال الممارسات والتطبيق العملي للقيم والمفاهيم التي يتعلمها الطلاب نظريا، وضرورة إعادة تشكيل المناهج لإعطاء حصة أكبر للتربية البيئية في جميع مناهج التعليم العام.
